Tanzanite is a relatively recent discovery, having been first identified in the late 1960s, especially when compared to the many gemstones that have been cherished throughout recorded history. This blue gemstone typically displays a purplish or violet undertone, and it complements white metals such as white gold, platinum, or sterling silver. Available in a variety of styles and settings, tanzanite stones are often heat-treated to enhance their colour, with the treatment being considered permanent.
