Antique Sterling Silver Sovereign & Vesta Case Albert Chain – Chester 1906

A fascinating piece of Edwardian sterling silver, combining a sovereign coin holder and vesta case with a substantial Albert-style watch chain.

Dating to 1906, the domed rectangular double case measures approximately 65 × 30mm and is beautifully decorated with traditional scroll engraving. Designed to serve two purposes, one section was intended to hold a sovereign coin while the other functioned as a vesta or match case.

The case is suspended from a handsome 7mm wide knot-style silver chain, approximately 31cm long, complete with a traditional swivel clasp and T-bar.

Adding to its historical interest, the piece is engraved:

“M.B.W.S. & S.P.U. Presidents Trophy won by A.R. Iredale 11.2.07”

Hallmarked Chester 1906 and weighing an impressive 65.71g, this is a substantial and unusual example of early 20th-century silver – ideal for collectors of antique silver, sovereign cases, vestas, Albert chains or historical presentation pieces.
